Staying in with Carmen Felix
First of all, how are you?
Considering the circumstances, i'm doing great. I'm healthy, shacked up with my lover and my cat, can still afford my groceries and am trying to keep busy.
With who are you spending your days at home?
My partner Reint and my cat Cosmo. My partner and I are both freelancers so we're used to work at home together. And we love staying inside together. But since it's the only option now, it can feel a bit claustrophobic. But I try to go on walks sometimes. My cat is enjoying all this, very much so.
What's your routine during these days? (If you have one)
Somedays I have a routine and somedays I don't. It mostly depends on having work to do. If I do, i love writing in the mornings. My attention span isn't the biggest so I've got like 4 productive hours a day. I love just pushing those productive hours in my mornings so I can chill in the afternoons. Besides work I've been reading a lot sinds having to stay in. Simple stuff that takes my mind off reality. Sometimes I do a little YouTube workout in between. Or I take a walk. God my life sounds so boring right now. But I'm not hating it. Most of the time.
What annoys you the most of staying in?
I really really miss ordering food and drinks in bars and restaurants. Touching my family and friends. I'm totally done with all the videocalling by the way. For me it just emphasizes that I can't hold or be near those people.
What do you enjoy of staying in?
What I've been loving the most is that I tend to read so much more since being locked in. And actually... napping a lot more during the day. At first I was like, well this was dumb to do - how am I going to sleep at night. But actually accepting that your whole routine and rhythm are f'ed up right now can really calm you down. It's okay to not be perfect during a crisis.
Still dress up and do your make up or PJ's forever?
I actually switch it up everyday. I love my PJ's and my comfi-wear. I own a lot of kimono's and comfi shorts and tops that I feel great in. But i also just love putting on a full glam face just for my walk in the park or my visit to the Turkish supermarket across from my house.
Best stay-at-home-tips?
Let loose, don't focus too much on all the perfect people on Instagram making the most out of a horrible time and just do what you want to do. We'll be back to normal eventually and do you really think that 8 months from now you'll be sitting in your office thinking 'ugh why did I take that damn nap back in april? I was such a slacker!'
What do you miss from normal life?
Going to the movies. I'm craving to put that Cineville-card to work again. Oh and just going outside without being annoyed with EVERYONE.
Who do you miss?
My mom and dad. Really miss those two. And my sisters. My friends. Hugging my buddies while drunk in a bar. That's the best.
Favourite tune at the moment?
I've been listening to Phoenix - If I Ever Feel Better a lot recently, that's definitely my coronajam.
Series/movies tips?
I finally started binging Ozark, it's on Netflix and I love it thus far. Before that we watched The Outsider. Really good, with a few of the same actors that are in Ozark. But this one is on HBO. Oh and ofcourse I'm loving the new Keeping Up With The Kardashian season.
Book tips?
It's the biggest bestseller in the Netherlands right now and I was ready to hate it but I'm loving The Seven Sisters. It's super light, a bit cheesy sometimes but why bother with heavy literature right now? Before this one I finished Patty Brard's new biography in one afternoon. Oh and ofcourse i'm gonna have to pitch my own book right now. Everybody, go read 'Je kunt het ook nooit goed doen' by Carmen Felix and tell me how you really feel!
Favourite IG account for a good laugh?
I love 'SaintHoax'. And for all the dutchies: 'het is een hefla' and this page called 'geile boomers'. Sorry in advance.
Favourite IG account for inspiration?
I try not to look at Instagram for inspiration actually. It's a great medium for a good laugh but besides that it can actually be really toxic in terms of comparing yourself to others mentally, physically or careerwise.
